App Discontinued

I already gave the app a bad review a few months ago. I figured tonight that I would give them a second chance by checking on an upcoming cruise. The app is discontinued. I couldnt even open it. Hopefully Apple will remove it from their store soon.

Didnt work entire time of cruise

After connecting to the ships wifi, all options vanished. Couldnt review account, chat, etc, and the things to do section was empty the entire week.

Countering the 1 stars

You need to be on the ship for the app to load and function properly.

Not good

Dont waste your money app is pretty much useless you can see all the info on your tv or kiosks through out the ship messaging function not real good.

Doesnt Work as Promised

App loaded fine. Paid the extra for messaging and phone connectivity. Messaging didnt work at all. Phone either. Account Activity always showed $0 (I wish!). "Things To Do" worked "sometimes." Disconnected from wifi often. Save your money; avoid this app and bring 2-way radios.

Countering bad reviews

1. you have to be on the ship connected to NCLs wifi. It does NOT cost! 2. Husband and I used it all 10 days and loved it, it worked just fine. 3. No app is perfect. NCL will fix the kinks. Give them time, its still new. No harm no foul getting the app and deleting if you dont like it. 4. You need to have some idea of how to work a phone and app for it to work!

Useful

I found the apps texting and excursion booking very useful. We had no problems with the app not working. I wish there were deck plans and ship location tracking too though.

Great for groups and info

I never carry my freestyle Daily with me so its nice to get a digital version. But the best benefit is the messaging capability. For a onetime $7 you can call text your friends our cabins on the go over ships wifi at no charge to your cellular plan. Its a must have for groups, especially if your spread across different rooms. The app is only designed for ship use. Not intended for pre-cruise info.

Frustrating

Impractical. You had to have the app open to receive text or calls, even if you allowed it make push notifications. It crashes regularly. It was somewhat helpful for seeing what was happening. It was nice that you could make reservations but inconvenient that you couldnt cancel them. You couldnt make any dining reservations. And, I know this is small, but I didnt buy your app so that you had another opportunity to advertise to me. Dont send cruise ads to the cabin messenger. It pisses people off.

Dont bother

Before you download, check to see if this works on your ship. We were on the Jade, and this app was nothing more than a static digital brochure for activities on board. It offered reservations at some of the specialty dining, but nothing else. No Freestyle daily, no deck map, useless. Plus we had to pay $7.95 PER PHONE to use the messaging and phone feature. It was helpful, but ultimately a rip off.

Mediocre-worth what you paid for it-nothing nothing

What I liked about it is it shows you your bill in real time. Trying to book entertainment on board was glitchy. I think NCL has chutzpah for charging $8/pp for texting. For a family of 4 - thats $32. I wish NCL would lower the price.

Waste of money, constant disconnects

NCL is better than this

We downloaded the app as soon as we booked our trip, really excited to start looking at our customized itinerary, reserving shows, restaurants, and excursions. So you can imagine our disappointment when we found that the app is rather useless until you’re actually on the ship. We did use the countdown timer and visited the app often for that but found that feature to be the only useful one in the days preceding our trip. What a wasted opportunity, Norwegian. Imagine the ads and offers you could have sent us leveraging our pre-cruise excitement. Oh well. :-) One interesting behavior I noticed days before our sailing was a message from the app that we were “connected to the ships wifi” whenever I connected to my home network and a message that we were “disconnected from the ships wifi” when leaving our house. Is it really that hard for the app to determine when it’s actually connected to the ship’s wifi as opposed to any old wifi? The real disappointment however, came once we boarded. Texting and calling for $7.95 per device is a non-starter after spending thousands for a cruise. Come on Norwegian. At least give us texting through the app for free. Oh, and while you’re at it, make texting really work without having the app open all the time. In addition to texting, we could have used deck plans. I expected the app to know which boat I was on and provide deck plans but even a dropdown menu of ships in the NCL fleet would have helped. Seems like a no-brainer to me in this high tech world but we had to make do with printed deck plans that I carried along with my phone. I had other issues with features and app crashes from time to time. Before the second day of our 7 day cruise, I stopped using the app entirely and probably won’t pick it up again unless a major update is delivered. I have left it installed, however. It makes me smile every time the banner message tells me that I’m connected to the ships wifi while comfortably seated in my living room. :-)
